What Format are Phone Numbers Stored In?
In order to ensure you are comparing your phone number data correctly from ACCESS, there is a specific format you need to have applied to your data.
The following rules are applied to all numbers stored, processed, and transmitted by ACCESS:
- Use numbers only: strip all non-numeric characters from each number. e.g. (123) 456-7890 should be 1234567890.
- Remove the U.S. Country Code: all U.S. numbers should be 10 digits long, if the number is 11 digits and starting with a '1' then you must remove that leading '1'.
- Remove the leading 0 in U.K. numbers: some U.K. mobile numbers are 11 digits start with a '07', e.g. 070 xxxx xxxx. You must remove the leading '0' from these numbers, making them all 10 digits starting with a '7'.
