What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an additional layer of security to the sign-in process. It verifies your identity using something you have, like your phone, in addition to something you know (your username and password).
How does it work?
After enabling MFA on your account with an authenticator app on your device, you will be asked for a six-digit authentication code when you sign in to SUPPRESS. These codes are uniquely linked to your account and device, so even if someone knew your password, they wouldn't be able to access your account without physical access to your device. These codes also change every 30 seconds, so that someone with temporary access to your device couldn't save a code for later.
Even so, it is crucial that you keep your device secure. Never share your MFA setup details or anything in your authenticator app. OPTIZMO will never ask for an authentication code outside of SUPPRESS.
If you later change your mind, you can disable MFA on your account, but we strongly recommend leaving it enabled to help keep your account secure.
What happens if I lose my device?
Losing your device doesn't mean losing access to your account. When you enable MFA, you are given 10 recovery codes. Each recovery code can be used once to sign in instead of an authentication code. After you have signed in, you can then remove your lost device from MFA and add a new one. Adding a new device will invalidate any existing recovery codes and generate 10 new ones.
Keep your recovery codes secure. They are your backup if you ever lose your device. You can print them out, download them to a file, or copy them to a secure place like a password manager.
You can generate new recovery codes while signed in, but if you lose both your device and your recovery codes, then you’ll need to contact your admin to disable MFA on your account.
