What are Seed Hits
Seed Hits are unique email addresses that OPTIZMO creates for a specific affiliate within a campaign and randomly inserts into the suppression file when the affiliate downloads a plain text Opt-Out List. Seed Hits are a crucial mechanism within the OPTIZMO system designed to monitor and detect potential misuse of suppression lists by affiliates.
The primary purpose of these seeds is to idenfity if anyone is sending any email to your suppression list. If a Seed Email is hit, it suggests that someone is likely sending other offers or continuing to send to the suppression list, even if it's disconnected from the intended opt-out links for that particular offer. The domain of a Seed Email is kept secret to prevent affiliates from filtering them out, which would render the seeds useless. When an email is sent to a Seed Email, the system automatically captures it.
Monitoring and Notifications:
When an email is sent to a Seed Email, the full details of that email, including sending information, the 'From' address, and the body of the email, are captured as a Seed Hit Alert. These alerts are visible under the Affiliate Compliance section in Insights. Clients are notified daily of any Seed Hits by email as part of the Daily Compliance Notifications.
The best way to avoid receiving Seed Hits is to distribute your data hashed in either MD5 or SHA-512.
